Barbie Vs. the Mullahs

The idiotic theocrats ruling Iran have identified a new aspect of the Great Satan that chills their blood: Barbie.

From ABC News:
A top Iranian judiciary official warned Monday against the "destructive" cultural and social consequences of importing Barbie dolls and other Western toys.

In the latest salvo in a more than decade-old government campaign against Barbie, Prosecutor General Ghorban Ali Dori Najafabadi said in an official letter to Vice President Parviz Davoudi that the doll and other Western toys are a "danger" that need to be stopped.

"The irregular importation of such toys, which unfortunately arrive through unofficial sources and smuggling, is destructive culturally and a social danger," said the letter, a copy of which was made available to The Associated Press.

Domestic Enemy: Ian Murphy of the Buffalo Beast

I won't link directly to Ian Murphy's psychotic rant; here's a link to Pat Dollard's story about this oxygen thief.

Here's an excerpt of Murphy's hate speech:
Fuck the Troops

So, 4000 rubes are dead. Cry me the Tigris. Another 30,000 have been seriously wounded. Boo fucking hoo. They got what they asked for—and cool robotic limbs, too.

Likely, just reading the above paragraph made you uncomfortable. But why?

The benevolence of America’s “troops” is sacrosanct. Questioning their rectitude simply isn’t done. It’s the forbidden zone. We may rail against this tragic war, but our soldiers are lauded by all as saints. Why? They volunteered to partake in this savage idiocy, and for this they deserve our utmost respect? I think not.
Murphy, who admits to being a junky as recently as 2003, follows up this offensive tripe with the standard leftist diatribe explaining why Amerikkka is evil and deserves everything the poor, oppressed jihadis choose to give her. Sounds just like Obama's "pastor."

Is this a signal from the Buffalo Beast, an "alternative" media online newspaper that the Left has decided to drop the mask of pretending to support our soldiers? Could be, the strain has been showing lately.

10 Norks Neutralized in Syrian Nuke Attack?

Ten North Koreans may have been killed in the Israeli airstrike against Syria's nuclear plant last September.

Bloomberg bases this report on a Japanese language news site:
The 10 people, whose remains were cremated and returned to North Korea in October, had been helping with the construction of a nuclear reactor in Syria, Japan's public broadcaster said. Some North Koreans probably survived the air attack, NHK said.
Eh, that's a shame.

Report: Iranians Holding Brit Hostages

From the Timesonline:
Five British hostages who were kidnapped in Iraq almost a year ago are being held inside Iran by Revolutionary Guards, according to two separate sources in the Middle East and London.

The hostages were handed over to the Revolutionary Guards by their Iraqi kidnappers last November, the sources believe. One of the sources said they were being held in the western Iranian city of Hamadan.
If true, it should surprise no one that a regime so barbaric and debased that it came to power violating the most basic traditions of diplomacy would commit such an act.

Nor should it surprise anyone that the Iranian theocrats were stupid enough to let their perfidy be exposed.

Apostate: Greenpeace Founder Advocates Nukes

And he's not convinced that Global Warming is caused by humans. Burn the witch.

From IdahoStatesman.com:
Greenpeace founder Patrick Moore says there is no proof global warming is caused by humans, but it is likely enough that the world should turn to nuclear power - a concept tied closely to the underground nuclear testing his former environmental group formed to oppose.
What caused Moore's change of mind about nukes?
He says his change of heart comes from his background in science and a different approach to sustainability.

He sees a need for maintaining technologies that are not harmful while fixing or replacing those that are harmful.
Science? That's not good enough for his former comrades:
"The only reason Patrick Moore is backing something as unsafe and risky as nuclear power is he is being paid by the nuclear industry to do so," [Andrea Shipley, executive director of the Snake River Alliance] said.
Silly scientist, it takes a truly informed individual to understand the mysteries of the planet. A person like Al Gore.

Hostages Were Tortured, Beaten to Death By Shia Group

Via The Buffalo News:
Horrific details about the deaths of four men who were taken hostage in Iraq with Jonathon M. Cote began to emerge Thursday, as his family called upon the federal government to expand efforts to capture the killers.

Francis L. Cote doesn’t know yet how his son died, but he fears that Jonathon was beaten and tortured, based on information he has received from the family members of other hostages who were killed.

“Based on the autopsies of the other victims, it appears that they were beaten to death, while their hands were tied behind them,” Cote said. “I don’t want our government ever to forget what happened to Jonathon or these other four men.”

On a day of grief for the Cotes, family members of the other victims told The Buffalo News horrible details about the other deaths:

• The men may have been killed more than two months ago, based on the decomposition of the remains. Their bodies were found in an undisclosed location in Iraq.

• The victims were savagely beaten to death, probably with their hands tied behind their backs.

• One of the men suffered neck wounds so severe that he was nearly decapitated.

• The men suffered severe internal trauma, according to autopsies.

• No bullet wounds were found in the corpses.

Sharon DeBrabander of Lee’s Summit, Mo., mother of hostage John Young, told The News that her son experienced an especially grisly death.

“His head was nearly cut off, but they all had a lot of trauma,” DeBrabander said. “From what I’m told, their hands were tied. My son not only had trauma to the head, but his chest. His ribs were broken, and there was internal bleeding.”
The five security contractors were taken hostage by a group calling themselves Mujahideen of Jerusalem Company in late 2006. A video of the hostages was released by the group in early 2007.

So, if you thought extremist Shia groups were any less brutal and savage than Sunni groups like al-Qaeda or Ansar al-Sunnah, you were wrong.

Please keep the families of these men on your prayers. We hope and pray that the murderous thugs who took them are found and justice is served.

Izzat Izzat?

Iraqi security claim to have captured and turned over to the US a notorious henchman of Saddam. The American military denies that they have Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri in custody.

From the Telegraph:
A man resembling Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri, the vice-chairman of Saddam's Ba'ath party and the King of Clubs on America's "deck of cards" most-wanted list, was said to have been taken into custody by Iraqi forces.

Al-Arabiya television said that the man was caught in Hamrin between the provinces of Salaheddin and Kirkuk and was moved to Baghdad where he was said to have been handed over to US forces. DNA tests are being conducted to confirm his identity, the report added.

Duri tops the Iraqi government's current list of most-wanted fugitives.
We've heard overwrought reports before. Al-Duri's partners in evil, skulking in Syria, claim that he's fine, just fine. Time will tell.

Terrorist State: Majority of Palestinians Support Suicide Bombings

The number of Palestinians who support terrorist attacks against Israel continues to rise:
Palestinians who support bombing attacks against Israeli civilians rose from 44.8% in June 2006 to 48% in September 2006 and to 50.7% now.
At the same time, confidence in Palestinian leaders is at extremely low levels:
Support for [Fatah leader] Abbas fell from 18.3% in November to 11.7% this month. The poll also showed that fewer Palestinians are satisfied with Abbas's performance.

Support for [Hamas leader] Haniyeh also went down, from 16.3% in November to 13.3% this month. The same applies to Fatah's imprisoned leader, Marwan Barghouti, whose popularity moved down from 14.3% to 12.8% during the same period.

Suspected Terrorist Bilal Hussein to be Released

Following dismissal of charges under a general amnesty law by an Iraqi court, Multi-National Force Iraq has determined that Associated Press employee Bilal Hussein "...no longer presents an imperative threat to security," and will be released on April 16.

From the MNFI press release:
According to MNF-I officials, Hussein was alleged to have possessed bomb-making materials, conspired with insurgents to photograph explosions directed at Iraqi Security and Coalition forces, and offered to forge an identification card for a wanted terrorist who was being pursued by Coalition forces. The allegations and evidence provided by MNF-I supported the main charge against Hussein, that of terrorism under Iraq’s Anti-Terrorism Law. Under this law, as under the terrorism laws of many countries, journalistic motives are not a legal defense.
In his work for the Associated Press, Hussein displayed an absolutely uncanny, nearly supernatural ability to be at various locations precisely when terrorists were trying to ambush Coalition forces. Almost as if he had advance notice of when and where the attacks were to occur. Well, actually, exactly as if he had advance notice of the attacks.

British Photographer Rescued by Iraqi Troops

Excellent news out of Iraq, from the Telegraph:
Richard Butler, a freelance photographer, was abducted from a hotel in Basra on Feb 10 while working on assignment for CBS, the American television network.

Butler was found with a sack over his head
Gunmen from one of Basra’s many Shia militias are thought to have carried out the kidnapping.

Soldiers from Iraq’s 14th Army Division, who have been conducting a general offensive against the gunmen in Basra, stormed a house in the city’s suburb of Jubaiya.

While they had indications that a “target” of some kind was in the building, they did not know that Mr Butler was being held there.

Arise, Arise

When evil grows and no one acts, the common people take it in the neck.

There's Something About Barry

The something about Barack Obama is that he just doesn't get it when he tries to relate to people whose American experience is different from his.

Obama on rural Americans:
And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
Look Barack, you and Michelle grew up in primarily urban environments, and it seems that silver spoons were never far from your mouths. The rural American experience is alien to you. Now, you're trying to relate, and I give you some credit for that, though trying to pound the round peg of country life into the square hole of the nanny state isn't the way to do it.

Let's take that clinging to guns thing, for instance.

Now, I grew up in a rural hamlet in upstate New York. A hamlet is a place so small that it has a name, but the only local "government" is maybe a volunteer fire department, if that.

Apart from the fact that we use our guns to hunt game, both big and small, there's another issue. Something that might not occur to you high-falutin' city folk.

Let's say that you, Barry, suddenly find yourself in need of assistance from the police. A typical white, born-again, drunken, anti-trade bigot who hates illegal immigrants is banging on the door to your mansion and you're afraid for the safety of your family. Why, I'll bet the Chicago police are there inside of five minutes with bells on and whistles blowing. And it probably will be quicker than that; it'll just seem like five minutes to you.

Back in the sticks, where us rubes hang out swilling beer, ogling cousins, and shooting up road signs, it's a different story.

Let's say that a woman who lives where I grew up has kicked her man out because he developed the habit of knocking her around a little bit whenever he got the right mix of intoxicating spirits into himself. One night around two AM he starts banging on her door and shouting that he's going to wring her neck.

She can't call the local police, because there aren't any local police. It's a hamlet, dude.

She's got two choices: she could call the state police substation, which is a few minutes closer than the sheriff, but there isn't always someone there; in fact, two in the AM isn't a good time to even hope that anyone's there. So she calls the county sheriff.

Now, since the sheriff is located in the county seat on the other side of the county, it's going to be at least a half hour before help shows up at her not-a-mansion door. Maybe she'll get lucky and a deputy will be on road patrol somewhere closer, say, only twenty minutes away, or so.

Mr. Obama, sir, can you see why this poor woman might need an equalizer?

Over at Power Line, John Hinderaker is wondering if Barack has just scuttled his whole campaign with this misstep.

Iranians Probing US Military Ships' Defenses

Napoleon Ahmadinejad's minions are at it again:
Three speed boats of unidentified origin approached a US patrol boat as it transited the Gulf but stopped after a warning flare was fired, a US Navy spokesman said.

The USS Typhoon, a Coast Guard patrol boat, was heading from the central to the northern Gulf when it was approached by the high-speed boats, said Lieutenant Nathan Christensen, a spokesman for the US Fifth Fleet.

"Typhoon issued the standard query to the incoming small boards via bridge-to-bridge," he said by telephone from Bahrain. "Upon receiving no response, Typhoon activated a flare. Small boats stopped and Typhoon continued on its way."

Christensen said the small boats were of "unidentified origin."

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Navy operate speed boats in the northern Gulf, and have played cat-and-mouse games in the past with US warships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
There's not much doubt that these little sorties are intelligence probes to determine the type and intensity of US reactions. Similar incidents have allowed Iranian speedboats to get alarmingly close to American military ships, especially in light of the fate of the USS Cole.

Any sign of weakness or indecision on our part eventually will provoke more murderers to try to take out US sailors.

Solution? One warning shot across the bows once the boats approach within 1,000 yards. Then blow them out of the water, collect the floating body fragments and deliver them to the nearest Iranian embassy.

The Siren Call of Censorship for Peace

Indian website Techtree reports that the predominantly Muslim country of Indonesia has banned YouTube, Google Video, MySpace, et. al. for allowing posting of the anti-Islamist video Fitna.

But Techtree's reporting carries a large dose of blame-shifting:
Before you upload an anti-Allah/Quran article, video, or cartoon, do think about whether the people affected by it will be able to view it. Or perhaps how much loss you're about to cause the Web site and people who use it, that hosts the blasphemous content in Muslim countries.
Got that? If you post something critical of Islam or Islamist terrorists it's your fault if some benighted, totalitarian third world hellhole bans it.

Techtree closes with an admonition (and what looks like a veiled threat) to the video service providers to ban Fitna:
We'd say: YouTube, MySpace, you'd better wipe that pinching video off your sites; you're missing out on traffic from the fourth largest populous country, one that houses the maximum Muslims in the world (so say figures derived from the Indonesian Central Statistics Bureau in 2006). And their number is growing.

Attack of the Muffin-Tops

A pack of teenagers, ages 14-18 lured a 16 year old girl to a residence and beat her severely in order to make a YouTube video. From NBC5, Chicago:
The beating took place on March 30 when the girl was lured to a Lakeland, Fla., home. According to authorities that's where two of the attackers began yelling at the victim, and another girl began beating her and slamming her head into a wall. The victim lost consciousness, but when she awoke, a total of six teenage girls began beating her and videotaping the attack -- all while laughing and encouraging each other, the sheriff's office said. Meanwhile, two teen boys kept watch outside.
The victim has suffered losses to her vision and hearing.

Hat tip to Susan at Stop the ACLU, who has video.

The Sheriff interviewed in the tape at STACLU says that after their arrest, the girls were laughing about their merry prank and wondering if they could make cheerleader practice the next day.

More Liberal Propaganda From ABC

ABC's Martha Raddatz conducts a pseudo-poll among American troops in Iraq and somehow finds that the choice for President is between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Only one soldier speaks up for former POW John McCain.

I don't want to imply that Martha approached scores of soldiers in order to cherrypick a few that she found pleasing to her agenda, but does anyone really believe that a majority of today's military has forgotten Democratic efforts to disenfranchise them in 2000? Or the humiliation of the Clinton era, including mass force reductions and an awful sacrifice in Mogadishu that was thrown away by the C in C?

But okay, Martha, if you're sure about this, how about we go all Starship Troopers and allow only military personnel serving in the War on Terror and combat veterans to vote for President this year? What, that's fair, isn't it?

Stone's "W": Truthily Factiful

Here's a laugher from QED CEO Bill Block, whose company is financing Oliver Stone's $30 million attack on President Bush. The quote comes in the middle of an article from The Hollywood Reporter explaining how Stone is busily twisting reality to suit his goals, which include releasing the film prior to the November election:
Block, for one, said accuracy was vital to the filmmakers.

"When you embark on something as important as this," he said, "the truth is extremely important, and Oliver is relentless about the truth and facts."
Mmm-kay. Tell that to the Syracuse Police Department, which was slandered by Stone in his truthy and factiful movie, "Born on the Fourth of July."

Stone dramatically depicted the brutal 1970 "police riot" that occurred when Syracuse University students went "on strike" to protest the Vietnam War.

The trouble is that the "police riot" never happened. Not even close, as a couple of folks who were there explain:
''There was no use of force,'' she [former state senator Nancy Lorraine Hoffman] said. ''The police understood the significance of the demonstration, and their right to demonstrate. And they did not remove barricades. And they allowed the students to take over the university buildings.''

Bernard L. Busch, the president of the Syracuse Police Retirees Association and a member of the police department during the strike, said, ''We were never even called on campus.''
Even though Stone later conceded that the filmed incident was a composite, it had already been enshrined in the liberal psyche as fact.

Iran Had Forces on the Ground at Basra

From the Timesonline:
IRANIAN forces were involved in the recent battle for Basra, General David Petraeus, the US commander in Iraq, is expected to tell Congress this week.

Military and intelligence sources believe Iranians were operating at a tactical command level with the Shi’ite militias fighting Iraqi security forces; some were directing operations on the ground, they think.

Petraeus intends to use the evidence of Iranian involvement to argue against any reductions in US forces.
Why is this no big surprise? Because the Democratic party's strategy of undermining American efforts in the GWOT have, of course, emboldened Ahmadinejad and the mad mullahs. You can't really blame them. When a major US political party uses the same talking points as the mullahs, of course they see a green light for mischief.

Sweet! Judge Places Liens On Westboro Baptist Church

Via CJ Online:
A federal judge in Maryland on Thursday ordered liens on the Westboro Baptist Church building and the Phelps-Chartered Law office.

If the case presided over by U.S. District Court Judge Richard D. Bennett is upheld by an appeals court, the church, at 3701 S.W. 12th, and the office building, at 1414 S.W. Topeka Blvd., could be obtained by the court and sold, with the proceeds being applied toward $5 million in damages Bennett imposed on church members for picketing a military funeral.

A lien is a legal hold on property, making it collateral against money owed to a person or entity. It can keep the owner from selling the property or transferring title to the property.

The $5 million penalty is the result of a lawsuit filed against three of the church's principals by Albert Snyder, the father of Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew A. Snyder, whose funeral was picketed by church members.

The senior Snyder contended the picketing caused emotional distress and invasion of privacy.

Westboro Baptist members regularly picket funerals of members of the U.S. armed forces, contending the deaths are God's punishment for the country's support of homosexuals.
Lets just say that Howie finds this this very very satisfying. Must be God's punishment for something ;)

NC GOP Rep Insults Soldier - Updated

Representative Patrick McHenry of North Carolina was not allowed into the gym at an American compound in Baghdad's Green Zone because he didn't have proper ID. In the following video, McHenry refers to the soldier guarding the facility as a "two-bit security guard."

Listen up, McHenry, I don't care how strongly you claim to support the troops. If you misspoke, you'd better clear it up right away. Otherwise, You'd better be forthcoming with most abject apology of which you are capable, because right now you're looking like an arrogant ass. Don't expect any cover from the Right.

Update: Michael Godfarb at the Weekly Standard Blog discovers that Think Progress (where I found the link to this video, via memeorandum) has screwed the pooch again:
Well, it isn't true. Think Progress provides the video, but at no point does McHenry indicate that the "security guard" is an American soldier. In fact, if Amanda had bothered to call McHenry's office, she would have learned that the security guard was one of the foreign contractors so reviled by the left--an individual who in any other circumstance Amanda would likely label a "mercenary."
That's what I get for trusting a Progressive site to report something honestly. This doesn't exonerate McHenry for being overbearing to the security guard, but it highlights the lengths that the Left will take to spin a to their advantage.

Brit Muslims Go on Trial for Airline Terror Plot

Remember the terrorist plot to use liquid explosives to blow up seven airliners bound from Heathrow to cities in the US and Canada?

Eight of the participants began their trials yesterday. The case is news in the UK and some former parts of the British Empire, but American media considers it a big yawn, even though the coordinated downing of seven airliners within hours of each other might have resulted in a larger "grim milestone" than the 9/11 death toll.

According to the prosecution, planning was meticulous and close to fruition:
Ali, 27, married with a young son, also had a pocket notebook in which a "blueprint" for making the bombs and carrying out the plot was written.

Plastic Oasis and Lucozade bottles were to be used by the plotters to make their liquid bombs.

A hypodermic syringe would be inserted into the base to draw out the drink and the bomb mixture would be injected in its place.

A homemade detonator called hexamethylene triperoxide and also known as HMTD would be made from a mixture of household and commercial ingredients and disguised in AA batteries.

Bulbs and wires would connect the bomb mixture with disposable cameras to trigger a charge to set it off.

Breaking: 'Manufactured Ordnance' Closes NYS Thruway Exit

Maintenance workers discovered a suspicious device on the roadside at Weedsport Exit 40, west of Syracuse this afternoon. After closing the exit in both directions, state police defused the device, which they described as "manufactured ordnance," and it is now en route to Albany for analysis. The Weedsport exit has been reopened.

Update: From the wstm.com link above:
The realistic looking homemade device was constructed of plastic and sheet metal fashioned to look like a rocket propelled grenade. It contained no explosive components and was considered harmless after examination.

Ted Turner to Become Zombie Cannibal

Proving that great intelligence need not accompany great wealth, the former Mr. Jane Fonda, unwittingly revealed his plan to become a zombie cannibal:
"We'll be eight degrees hotter in 30 or 40 years and basically none of the crops will grow," Turner said during a wide-ranging, hour-long interview with PBS's Charlie Rose that aired Tuesday.

"Most of the people will have died and the rest of us will be cannibals," said Turner, 69. "Civilization will have broken down. The few people left will be living in a failed state — like Somalia or Sudan — and living conditions will be intolerable."
Update: sources report that Turner may have already achieved a state of zombiehood. This photo reveals a smiling Ted Turner (circled) with Confederate forces shortly before the Battle of Gettysburg.

Austrian Pol Indicted for Offending Islam

Wasn't Adolf Hitler born in Austria? Old habits die hard, it seems.

From The Brussels Journal:
The Austrian authorities have indicted politician Susanne Winter on charges of incitement and degradation of religious symbols and religious agitation. This offence carries a maximum sentence of two years. Last January, Ms Winter said that the prophet Muhammad was “a child molester” because he had married a six-year-old girl. She also said he was “a warlord” who had written the Koran during “epileptic fits.”
I'd need to see a citation for the epilepsy part, but the rest is simply...the truth. Winter has been under police protection following Muslim death threats. No one has been indicted for making the threats, and there's little indication that the Austrian authorities are even investigating them.

The Brussels Journal also mentions this:
However, Alfred Hrdlicka, the Austrian “artist” who depicted Jesus and his apostles engaging in homosexual acts of sodomy during the Last Supper, has not been indicted. Nor will he be. Depicting Jesus sodomizing his apostles is not considered to be a “degradation of religious symbols” in Austria, but referring to the historic fact that Muhammad married a six-year old girl is “incitement to racial hatred.”

Hillary's Lies "Should Disqualify Her From the Presidency"

Christopher Hitchens, writing at Slate:

[Hillary's Bosnia fantasy] must mean either a) that she lies without conscience or reflection; or b) that she is subject to fantasies of an illusory past; or c) both of the above. Any of the foregoing would constitute a disqualification for the presidency of the United States.
